民國48年2月1日行政院國家科學委員會成立,為政府推動科學技術發展的專責機構,肩負推動全國整體科技發展、支援學術研究,以及發展科學園區等三大任務。另為強化科技創新與產業發展結合以帶動經濟成長和國家進步,民國103年3月3日國科會改制為科技部。為因應國際科技趨勢及擘劃國家未來科技發展策略,行政院啟動科技部組織調整,將科技部由縱向執行部會轉型為橫向協調整合之國家科學及技術委員會,主任委員並由政務委員兼任,國家科學及技術委員會組織法並於民國111年7月27日生效。轉型後之國科會除承受科技部原有業務外,將連接上中下游的技術發展與產業應用,聚焦我國策略布局,並發揮跨域、跨部會協調功能,集中科技發展事務權責,並妥善分配科技經費、優化使用效率,確保政策有效執行。
