The present volume has been especially edited to celebrate the vigentennial anniversary of the Institute of Linguistics (ILAS) (2004–2024). It includes an introductory chapter retracing the history of the institute and fourteen research papers in historical linguistics, morphosyntactic topics, and phonetics and phonology. These papers deal with a variety of topics and languages/language families (including Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese Southern Min, Hakka (Sinitic), Bodo, Garo, Dimasa, Northern Naga, Jingpho, Asakian, Rgyalrong, Qiang, Horpa, Tibetan (Tibeto-Burman), Ong-Be (Kra-Dai), Amis, Atayal, Puyuma, Rukai and Tsou (Austronesian)) written from various theoretical perspectives and approaches that reflect the array of languages and the range of frameworks faculty members are working on.

曾淑娟的研究領域為成人與兒童語音語料庫技術與分析、對話言談標示與兒童語音清晰度評估模型建立、口語詞彙與音韻形式研究、計算語言學與語言治療跨領域研究及對話言談結構與韻律特徵研究。
齊麗莎的研究領域主要為：臺灣南島語言暨語言學 (Formosan languages and linguistics)。近年來的研究工作為臺灣南島語言之研究（包括鄒語、魯凱語、賽夏語、布農語、泰雅語、巴宰語、卑南語、雅美語），歷史語言學（魯凱語方言比較、古南島語的構擬），數位典藏之建立，人才培育（包括魯凱族、鄒族、賽夏族、泰雅族、布農族、排灣族、賽德克族）。
