本書為「物華再現：文物保存修復」特展圖錄，聚焦國立故宮博物院文物保存體系，從預防性保存、科學分析與文物修復三大面向，呈現館藏保存、研究與修護實務。全書依展覽四個單元，介紹風險管理、非破壞性科學分析、修復過程中的新發現，以及修復決策與傳統技藝，透過繪畫、書畫、古籍、織品、木質、金屬、玉器、瓷器、漆器與寶石等案例，說明專業團隊如何延續文物生命並保存其歷史資訊、文化價值與工藝智慧。

國立故宮博物院典藏近七十萬件文物，承載悠久的歷史記憶與豐富的文化內涵，惟典藏文物材質、年代與形制各異，其保存狀況亦隨製作材料、流傳經歷及典藏環境而有所不同。文物於入藏、提件、研究及展覽等過程中，均須經過狀況檢視，並視實際需要進行環境控制、科學分析、修復或維護處理。相關工作除涉及文物材質與結構的辨識，也須綜合考量文物的歷史價值、藝術表現、使用需求及保存風險，據以訂定適切的處理方針。因此，博物館典藏文物之所以能夠跨越時代傳承，持續作為研究、展示與教育的重要資產，不僅需要社會對於保存維護觀念的重視，及現代博物館制度與專業技術的支持，更有賴於保存修護人員的頂真精神與努力奉獻。
近三年來，本院持續充實文物保存修復之組織量能及專業設施。北部院區修復室進行四十年來較大幅度的空間調整與搬遷，文物修復專業人力逐步增加；南部院區國寶修復中心亦依計畫推動，預計於2027年完工。未來將進一步整合文物修復、科學分析、人才培育及公共展示等功能，擴充本院整體保存維護能量。
